Gaining Experience and Developing Skills by Marielle Montanido

Updated: Nov 30, 2020

What piece of advice can you tell to students aspiring to be like you? What specific soft and hard skills are needed for this job, company, and industry?

2 main things I live by:

1. Put yourself out there! Join compets, attend networking nights, take on that online course youve always been eyeing. Just do it! Haha dont be afraid of failing and being embarrassed because it's all part of the process.

2. Surround yourself with the right people. Your environment shapes your mindset and your mindset shapes your performance! Always be conscious of who you allow to take up space in your head.

Hard Skills: Excel! I'm still struggling with this now and all the other schools have a curriculum that teaches this. UP unfortunately doesn't so take it upon yourself to self learn!

Soft Skills:

(1) Presenting--both articulating your thoughts and presenting yourself!

(2) Leadership: Having ownership over your tasks and being able to move others towards the same goals
